Local tax and healthcare costs post job

As I understand it after leaving a position one must pay local tax based on previous year’s income. Additionally, once you’ve left your company’s plan, your national healthcare costs will be similarly assessed.

I’ve read that you can get this adjusted if you don’t have any income. I’m not likely going to be able to secure similar compensation and I will try to build my own business while I do some looking. I will go to Hello Work to claim my benefits in the meantime.

My costs for local tax and HC will be significant and I’m hoping to get this reduced. As it stands, my requirements for those two alone are almost half the average salary in Japan.
