Short Shikoku detour worth the effort?

Hi, I’ve been doing final planning on my itinerary and have now reached the hotel booking phase; this means that everything is final and can’t be changed. I was looking at my itinerary and i just can’t shake this feeling that going through Shikoku may be more effort than it’s worth.

Here is the plan. For context, I’m a solo traveller without a driving license. What precedes these few days is a long stay in Kagoshima and Nagasaki.

Day 1: train to Fukuyama, visit senkoji temple

Day 2: Explore Setonaikai national park

Day 3: Train to Kanonji, takaya shrine hike

Day 4: Visit the Kanonji beaches

Day 5: Train to Kobe

So its a total of 4 days. As much as I want to visit Shikoku, is it worth the trouble to get there? especially since I’ll have seen plenty of “tropical” sights in Kyushu.

Thanks in advance

  1. I actually near one of those spots. Kanonji beach isn’t much, to see, but if you are okay just enjoying the walk and a few temples (and seeing the coin) and having a nice bowl of udon, then it could be worth it for you. My friends actually liked it after they had done a crowded and exciting Osaka trip. Shikoku is a good place to unwind and enjoy the countryside but it can be very boring.
