Changing aircon in my place

Hello,

I live in a appartment that I rent. The aircon is functioning relatively well although the outside unit is quite noisy. But it’s 10 years old. In my first place in Japan, the aircon died at the 10 years old mark. In my second place in Japan, the aircon was 9 years old when I moved in and it died in the first week of moving in.
Now, we have our first baby coming in May, summer is going to be hot, some say it will be the hottest summer recorded in a while. I am afraid my aircon dies on me at the peak of summer with a newborn who will suffer from even a few hours of intense summer heat.
Is this a reasonable excuse to ask the landlord to replace the aircon? Or must I wait that it dies. Or maybe can I make it die, if you know what I mean…

Does anybody relate to this situation?
