Caffeine sensitivity/allergy whilst travelling in Japan?

Hi all!
Did a search but came up with nil.

My fiance and I will be travelling to Japan in about a week. Yay! It’s my 4th time but his first.

He has a fairly serious sensitivity to caffeine – a hot chocolate will prevent him from sleeping, a latte will have him vomiting. Even the small amounts of caffeine in a decaf coffee will have him buzzing like if a normal person had 3 cups of coffee.

I’m aware that many over-the-counter painkillers in Japan can contain caffeine, so we’ll be packing our own ibuprofen/paracetamol, but I’m wondering if there is caffeine hidden in any other common items that we should be aware of?

Thanks for any help!
