I also think the covid lockdowns had a lot to do with it.
I think it’s mostly due to the popularity of FPS. There are a lot of FPS/TPS games on smartphones, so people play those first and then move up to PCs. Most of the PC gamers in Japan play FPSs.
Of course, streaming probably also has to do with it. Streaming in general is pretty popular in Japan, where they just talk or go about their daily lives streaming. And PC gaming is just “something to stream”.
