In July, I’m moving from Washington, DC to Sapporo, Japan. I have about 1 bedroom’s amount of furniture – bed (which I love), sectional sofa, tv stand, 2 TVs, dresser, night stand and a bunch of little things like vacuum, nightstand, etc.
After contacting a few moving companies, I’m told it would cost approximately $6-$8k and take 3-4 months due to issues at Panama Canal and other supply chain issues.
Also told that my sectional may not fit in most Japanese apartments bc the dimensions are different, which I’m seeing as I’m apartment shopping now.
That said, has anyone shipped their furniture? How was the process/experience, costs, etc? Any recommendations on moving companies? Any issues getting furniture into the accommodations? Any issues with the different wattage needed for electronics?
Conversely, if you decided to just buy new stuff in Japan, how was your experience, costs, etc? Any recommendations going with this option?
