This has probably been asked thousands of times, and I’ve searched on it but I don’t seem to find any good compilation of alternatives so I just wanted to shoot a message here and see if anyone’s got some advice.
I’m soon 27 years old and live in Sweden. I’ve been working a few years in a field I really don’t like anymore and every year in Sweden I get a really detrimental winter depression that really just makes life stagnant for half of the year. I’ve been having thoughts about trying moving abroad for two years already but never actually gotten to it. Last November I was on a trip in Japan for a month and it was so lovely. I really liked the atmosphere and the way it was sunny and warm right into the winters. Late November in Tokyo was like late summer in Sweden.
I’m not sure which career I will pursue in the future, and honestly I’m putting that on hold because I feel like a bigger question to answer for me is whether I would feel better living somewhere else than Sweden. So I basically feel like I need to do a trial run. Therefore, a working holiday visa to Japan seemed like a great option. The problem is, I have no idea what kinds of jobs I might be able to apply for. I want to make enough money to get by, but other than that I would just like to have the opportunity to explore and actually just live there for a while. If it interests me then I can actually dig deeper, pursue learning the language and maybe plan career opportunities. But I feel it’s better to first and foremost just confirm for myself it the act of living there is for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences that might enlighten me?
