That beautiful moment when you can easily smash through an anki deck that was punishingly hard last year

This is a message for those who are lacking motivation right now..

Revisit a vocab deck or something that you struggled with once before and you will soon realise how far you’ve come. I’ve recently found that going back is what has helped me move forward, because you’re never gonna know how far you’ve come unless you revisit the old stuff.

It’s like levelling up loads on an RPG then going back to the first few levels and smashing your way through laughing at how easy it is now compared to when you first started the game.

  1. I often think of learning japanese as being similar to a metroidvania – you go back to earlier areas where there were paths that were locked to you, but now you have an ability that lets you get through.

“Ohhhh, so that’s why all those verbs were always being followed with “mite”… they weren’t always saying to literally look at something with your eyes…” = “Ohhh, so all those spots where there were vines growing on the walls, now I can use my freeze ability to turn them into solid frozen platforms…”

  2. Agreed actually did this recently, been using Attack on titan the last few weeks for immersion material which is quite challenging, certainly for me, and i was getting frustrated. Went back to the first anime i used which was Initial D about 10 months ago now and compared to AOT its a cakewalk, especially being much more slice of life.
