We are planning a trip to Japan (arriving on April 27) and wanted to buy a 7-day JR Pass and start using it on the 30th. We have read quite a few different opinions online, so I would be grateful if someone who used it recently can guide me on the following:
1. If I buy the pass through the official website, should I expect to receive something on the mail that I will exchange for the physical ticket? Or do I only get an email with a code?
2. If I want to start using it on April 30, I assume I must pick it up / activate it a day prior – so that I can also reserve a seat for the first ride, is this correct?
3. If I pick it up on April 29, will the 7-day period start counting then? i.e. finishing on the 5th of May. OR can I ask them to activate it on the 30th so we can use it up until the 6th of May?
3. Can I activate it at any train station throughout Tokyo? I read somewhere that the stores operate on very limited times, is that so?
