Hi! I’m planning a trip to Kanazawa in late October with my parents who are both senior citizens over 70yo. This will be our first time in Kanazawa and my parents’ first time in Japan. I decided to do a DIY trip with my parents to have more flexibility on where we go and how much time we spend in one place. My parents are okay with taking long walks, but still need to go on a slow/comfortable place and will need to take breaks in between. Anyway, I hope to get any feedback/suggestions on our planned itinerary.
I’m planning for us to stay in Kanazawa for 4 nights (excluding arrival/departure). And while staying overnight in Kanazawa, take day tours to the Kurobe Railway Gorge in Toyama; and another day tour to Gokayama/Shirakawa-Go.
*Day 0 (Monday):* Arrival in Kanazawa in the evening (accommodations near Omicho Market)
*Day 1 (Tuesday):*
Morning – Tour around Kenrouken Garden
Afternoon – Tour around Kanazawa Castle Park
Late afternoon/Evening – Omicho Market (inc. dinner)
*Day 2 (Wednesday):*
Trip to Kurobe Railway Gorge
*Day 3 (Thursday):*
Morning – Tour around Kazuemachi District and Higashi Chaya District
Afternoon – Tour around Nagamachi Samurai District and Nishi Chaya District/Teramachi Temple Area
*Day 4 (Friday):*
Day trip to (Toyama) Gokayama and (Gifu) Shirakawa-Go *\[via Hida Takayama Bus Tour\]*
*Day 5 (Saturday):* Departure from Kanazawa (morning)
I put the Kurobe Railway Gorge and Day Tours to Gokayama/Shirakawa-Go in between dates we’re touring around Kanazawa just for a change of scenery.
