Since they stopped issuing new cards half a year ago, it seems that the only way to use Pasmo/Suika is to use their app (モバイルsuica/pasmo). But my phone is unable to run those apps, probably because it was not made in Japan. I will be living in Japan for years starting today and I don’t want to buy tickets every time I need to take trains.
Is the only solution right now to buy a new phone? I’ve heard that you could basically get a phone for free if you will be using their service for like a year or so. But will I be able to choose my plan (like the ahamo plan from docomo which is 3000 yens a month) freely in this scenario? I will go to docomo directly and ask them but I thought maybe I could ask at this sub first.
