  1. Am I missing something? I’d love to hear from someone with some knowledge on this.

    Japan and Korea seem the most natural of allies. Proximity, combined with the roles the US plays in both countries, both similar economies, both democratic, both stand in opposition to North Korea, both not wishing to be eclipsed by China culturally and economically.

    It seems like a potentially hugely mutually beneficial relationship. Why can’t these seemingly petty issues get ironed out? Is there something I’m missing? Surely old scores don’t outweigh the financial, cultural and security benefits?
