Buying land or choosing house maker/architect first

Based off what I’ve read, it seems that buying landing first gives you more room to negotiate prices with house makers, but going with a fully custom house and potentially an in-ground pool, my worry is buying land then our builder saying it won’t work with our house goals.

Sweden House seemed to suggest that choosing a house maker first, then letting then help with finding land was most common.

Anyone with suggestions or experience?
