5 days in Kyoto/Osaka w Kids. Can I fit in a day of Tokyo?

Hi, we are a family for four.
Two kids, 7 and 11. (Convenience store joke incoming. Dingding. ) we are going this summer.

Kids have never been to Japan. I have been to Tokyo several times. And also other cities like Fukuoka, Okinawa but first time in Osaka Kyoto area. So so excited.

We don’t have too many days in Japan since we are spending more time in Korea so I really want to make the schedule as efficient as I can. It’s a mini trip while we are visiting Korea.

I was thinking of doing the following

Day 1 fly to haneda in the morning. check in. Lunch and then go to Ghibli museum in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the evening browsing the city after dinner. i don’t have too many goals here. We live in LA so we frequent Disneyland and I don’t feel like I need to go to Tokyo Disneyland. Older kiddo and I appreciate anime and games so perhaps some character shopping would be fun.

Day 2

morning city stroll. Not sure what exactly to go for with kids in Tokyo. Harajuku Shinjuku? We could hit some cute dessert places. Sky view tower. (Forget the name)

Get on shinkansen and head to Kyoto around noon. Lunch on the train.

Check in at a local ryokan style lodging. Check out one of the temples in the afternoon.

Return to ryokan and have dinner and pass out.

Day 3.

More kyoto browsing. Asaka jinja. Gion area.

Fushimi inari.

If the kids aren’t into the temples etc we could do a day trip to Nara for deer instead. Otherwise checkout local tea and food places. Gift shop.

Train to Osaka. Check into a hotel near nintendo world.

Day 4

All day at Super Nintendo world. Come back to hotel and check out.

Day 5

Pack luggage and leave with the hotel. Check out Osaka city area and sample some food. Local markets, dotonbori maybe.

To Kansai airport and fly out in the evening.

I was wondering if I could fit in Tokyo on the in itinerary and on paper this looks good. Does this schedule look rushed? I don’t want to make too many goals because the seven year old could run out of energy.

I didn’t feel like we need to go to Osaka castle since Kyoto area can show the old world charm.

Is there anything I am missing the kids or I would really appreciate in each area?

Thank you for reading!!!
