Recommendations where to live? (working in Marunouchi)

Hi! 🙂

I am moving to Japan in June and since a couple of weeks I am already looking through pages such as [suumo.co.jp](https://suumo.co.jp) to get a better idea about the market. However, I still feel completely lost on the different areas and where to live.

A few facts:

* I will be working really super close to Tokyo Station, alternatively I could also use Nihonbashi as an exit to walk into the office.
* I am looking for a 1LDK, ideally new or 1-3 years old
* My budget is 200k Yen per month
* Traveling to the office within 30 minutes or less would be ideal

From my trips to Tokyo, I would say that probably I would like to move to Ebisu or Meguro, but it absolutely doesn’t make any sense as I would be losing just too much time for commuting. However, if I have a convenient connection to places such as Meguro, I can just go there by train my in free time.

If you would ask me what kind of area I like, I would have really problems defining this? I really like new & modern areas, which are usually very convenient. It should be relatively central and maybe have a few good cafes to hang out, meaning that there should be at least some kind of life. But I don’t need any nightlife and prefer it calmer.

My research brought me to following areas, without really knowing them:

1.) Kiyosumi-Shirakawa: Probably 25 minutes to the office. Rents are apparently not that high or maybe you get a bigger apartment. But still little bit “hip”, has a blue bottle cafe (the first in Tokyo at the time).

2.) Kanda: I found quite a lot of new apartments here and it is almost possible to walk to the office. With the train it takes me only 15 minutes. However, I don’t really know a lot about Kanda, but it seems a little bit busier?

3.) Ningyocho: Been there twice, but not quite sure what kind of neighborhood it is. It seems more old school and not that modern. However, very close only 15 minutes.

I have a few more honorable mentions: Shinagawa, Ueno, Higashi Shinjuku

Any thoughts on those areas? Any other ideas? Or recommendations how I can identify vibes of different neighborhoods?

Thank you!
