I shifted to Tokyo last year. And honestly it’s been such a great experience so far. I am really enjoying my life here. I’m a vegetarian and I mostly self cook my food and I am quite content with it. And Tokyo does have plenty of vegan friendly restuarant, though a bit expensive, but amazing food.
However, I find myself constantly trapped in situations like after drink parties or general office parties, or casual hangout with friends and colleagues. Places with vegetarian options usually do not have all you can drink or are either expensive or limited cuisine options. They do try to keep my food preferences in the mind and organise parties these days but the options for such things become pretty limited. And I feel very bad that because of my preferences, everyone has to adjust and hence I try to avoid such parties. I either skip them or only go if there are any vegetaran options. But then it does come off as I am trying to avoid them and after work hangouts
I am very flexible and keep no preferences for cuisine or dishes. But I always feel that my friends, colleagues have to compromise by going to an expensive vegetarian friendly restaurant.
This post in no way a rant or complain about the vegetarian options. As I said I am pretty much happy with self cooking. But when it comes to social meetings, after work hangs, I have no option but to skip.
Would love to hear suggestions from fellow vegetarian/vegan friends and how you deal with the situation.
