Kids working around the neighborhood for some spending money?

When I was a preteen, I mowed lawns, raked leaves, shoveled snow and sold candy bars around the neighborhood for cash. Anyone with kids have experience with something similar in Japan? My wife(Japanese) thinks it’s a bit strange but I think the neighbors would appreciate the idea of kids taking initiative. Thoughts?

Edit: I’m very surprised this is controversial. Several comments about child labor. I think this is an overreaction. That point aside, if a kid wants to buy something expensive, should the parent should just buy it for them? Or, is there any merit to the kid working and learning the value of their work and the things they use money for. Perhaps she’ll take better care of the things she buys with her earned money? Perhaps she’ll be more careful with the decisions she makes.

Edit 2: sounds like there are a bunch of rich kids commenting who have gotten everything they’ve ever asked for. “Kids trying to make a buck?!? What are you, nuts??” “Your kid gets put in uncomfortable situations? How could you!?”
