Citizen Hello Cards. Phonetic phrase cards

Citizen Hello Cards. Phonetic phrase cards

  1. Hello I’m posting another set of phrase playing cards this time created by the Cotizen watch company. In my post two weeks ago I had a comment about the cards not being very useful for people who couldn’t already read kanji and I think these cards would solve that problem. Each card has a phase that might be useful for someone traveling abroad written in Japanese then translated into a phonetic reading in English. The cards have the regular playing card suits and numbers. On the back of each card there seems to be a letter written in different fonts for each suit for some reason.

I’m a huge watch nerd and actually found this set before the set I posted a few weeks ago while looking for old watch related merchandise. These cards can still be found pretty easily online. Let me know what you guys think!

  2. That looks nice. However, some of the phonetics/romaji are not ideal.

For example, 今何時ですか would be pronounced “Ima nanji des_ka”, as です, even if written “de su”, mostly cuts the “u” sound.
