Weird experience at Ueno station…

So recently I (F37) happened to be on a date with my husband (M35) and we got followed! Now, I’ve heard of stalkers following women on their own…but a couple? It was so weird!

That night we were heading home and had to transfer at Ueno station. As we got off our train, I noticed a (presumably) Japanese man, looks to be in his 40s, walking ahead of me. He kept looking back in our direction. At first, I thought he might be looking for a friend he got separated with on the train, but he just kept looking back at us. And we had walked from a Hibiya line platform, out the gates, and towards the JR East line gates, which is a bit of a walk. We thought it would be kind of a stretch for us to assume he was “following” us, as we were walking behind him, but we had to know for sure that we were the focus of whatever he was doing.

When we got to the JR East ticket gate, to test if he was following us, we waited for him to look forward in between his stares and dashed right behind him. As he turned back to look for us, we moved to his opposite flank, essentially making him do a 360 spin until he spotted us again. It was clear, whatever he was up to, there was no doubt, we were the focus. We went up the stairs past the ticket gate, and he parallelly followed us up. At the top of the stairs, we waited until he looked forward, then we stopped walking. We watched him keep walking, turn around, notice we stopped, and so he stopped. If you’re at all familiar with the JR lines at Ueno station, there are these ‘human underpasses’ below the tracks. We used them to sneak to one side of the aisle and back, and he followed!! So weird!!

At this point my husband was mad, but I didn’t want him to start a scene, so he began to just death stare this creep down until he could “read the air”. After about a minute of this, the guy got the picture and left. My husband then told me to wait as he investigated and made sure the guy was gone. When we got on our transfer train home, we also took the furthest away car, so we could spot him if he followed. Thankfully we didn’t see him anymore.

I still don’t know what this guy was up to, but my husband thinks the guy was into me and waiting for him to leave my side – assuming hubby was maybe my boyfriend or something? My husband thinks this because when he first started following us, I was walking ahead of him and we weren’t holding hands or anything like that – hubby is also part Japanese, so maybe he thought we weren’t a couple because he’s not more foreign looking? Being on a date, I was also wearing my nicest makeup. My top was a form fitting, long-sleeve, high neckline blouse (conservative, but a good show of DD booba) but my skirt was long and flowy, not form fitting at all. I had a belt on too that cinched my waist.

I have some doubts this was the reason, only because I’m a heavyset woman (200+lbs/90+kg) and I don’t think I’m usually a Japanese man’s type, though my husband is an exception being half latino lol. While I did dress conservatively, I have a typical body-type being Latina, cinched waist, big boobies and butt, but unlike a lot of my family, I’m very fair skinned w/light eyes and very long black hair. While my natural figure is celebrated back in the US, I literally see no one with my body type in Japan, even among chubby Japanese women. I don’t know if it was curiosity, attraction or what…but it was such a weird experience, especially because I was with my husband!! Have any of you experienced something like this before in Japan??
