Is it possible for an American to have a specified skills visa?

I’ve been looking all over the place for info on how to take the necessary skills test for a specified skills visa, but for the food service industry it’s only available in certain countries. I’m from America, so I’m wondering if the only way to take said test would be to fly out to those countries to take it? Is there another way?

  1. We’ve talked about the SSW program [very recently](https://www.reddit.com/r/movingtojapan/comments/weuigi/what_is_your_opinion_of_specified_skilled_worker/).

Short answer: You’re an American. The SSW program is *not for you*. And you ***really*** don’t want one of those jobs.

To answer your actual question: Yes, you need to travel to one of the target countries to take the test. And the tests are conducted in the language of the country they are issued in. How’s your Nepalese/Vietnamese?

The only place where the tests are available in English is the Philippines, but they’re restricted to citizens.
