4 nights with day trips. Hotel in Osaka or Kyoto?

Hi. We’re going to Japan in June and the plan after Tokyo is to spend 4 nights in Osaka/Kyoto.
My plan is to stay in the same hotel in either Osaka or Kyoto for all four nights and then do day trips visiting Osaka, Kyoto and Nara.

Would you rather stay in Osaka or Kyoto?

Edit: We are two adults and two kids 10 and 14 years old.

Edit 2: thanks for all advice, it’s almost even split between Osaka and Kyoto so i still don’t know what to pick 🙂
