Japanese through CI

Hi! I have recently become interested in learning Japanese. From what I discovered about learning languages in general, comprehensible input seems like the best way to go about it. I can sort of confirm that with my own experience – I’ve gotten to a fluent level of English by watching and reading a lot of stuff in it. The thing is, though, by the time I started watching and reading a lot of stuff in English, I had learned pretty much everything there was to learn grammar wise, and had a considerable vocabulary to begin comprehending with. I struggle to understand how CI is supposed to work if you’re a complete beginner. Are you supposed to start with more standard learning? Until you are at the lower end of intermediate and are able to understand at least 30%-40% of the anime you actually enjoy watching? Are you supposed to watch videos like comprehensible Japanese on Patreon over and over and over until they make at least *some* sense*?* I have a feeling that if that’s the way, it’d be so incredibly boring I’d rather go with the traditional learning lol.

I’m basically wondering if anyone here has had experience learning languages through CI from complete zero, and if so, how did that go. And I’d be even more curious to know about any resources to learn Japanese through CI from the ground up – or, if that’s indeed not an option, recourses to learn Japanese through CI from as early on as possible.

Thanks in advance!
