Anyone Understands 役職手当?

I recently got promoted and it came with a raise, but instead of that extra pay being reflected in the base wage of the contract, it’s a separate figure in a section called 役職手当 (Position & Rank Allowance).

Googling has not been very helpful in understanding what’s the difference between that and the base pay. Does it get taxed at a different rate than the base salary? Or is there something else I should be aware of?

Would appreciate any insight from those who have experience with this!

Cheers

  1. It’s an allowance, so it can be removed easily, as it’s hard to reduce base pay without your acknowledgement
