Another First Timer Itinerary – 8 Days – Tokyo

Firstly, thanks so much for all the guidance and advice we have already seen! Myself and my partner will be landing in Haneda airport later this week, we’re not very experienced travellers, but we’re trying our best to make sensible plans. We are staying in one hotel (near Shinbashi station) for the duration.

Day 1: Land in Haneda at around 9:00am. Get Tourist PASMOs if available. Train to hotel, drop off luggage. Check out the imperial gardens and then go toward Ginza for window shopping and find somewhere to sit and rest before heading back to the hotel.

Day 2: Try to shake off jet lag by being outdoors. I saw a recommendation earlier on this sub for Fujizuka at Hatonomori, so I’d like to see that. Then explore Shinjuku Gyoen National Gardens, and the general area here. In the afternoon go south and walk around Nakameguro. I might try the Starbucks reserve roastery, depending on time or if we see somewhere else we’d rather stop.

Day 3: Guided tour of Fuji/Hakone.

Day 4: Morning at Ueno Park and possibly Tokyo National Museum. Afternoon in Akihabara – we’re really keen to try the arcades so again any tips would be appreciated.

Day 5: Asakusa – there’s the Hana Matsuri festival at Senso ji this day – Any tips around how to experience this – I imagine it will be super busy! We have an evening meal booked at an Ushigoro near our hotel.

Day 6: Yokohama during the day, see China town and the cup noodle museum. We then have a food/drink tour booked in the evening in Shibuya.

Day 7: Day trip to Nikko – I have a walking tour map that looks fairly straightforward. (My husband is set on going to Nikko after a work colleague told him about it – the guides seem to suggest it as an Autumn thing, but it will still be pretty and accessible in Spring?)

Day 8: Our flight doesn’t depart until the evening – this will be a good chance to do some last minute souvenir shopping or go back to places we haven’t been able to see.

Our biggest concern is about crowding the the stress that will come with it. I’m telling myself that if we have to take a break back at the hotel to recharge at any point, that’s ok!

I haven’t included evening activities as it will depend on how tired we feel as to which days we go out for a drink – one of the suggestions I saw was to avoid skytree and go to a hotel bar in Shibuya for some good views – I’d like to do that and I’ve made notes of the places that were suggested.

Any thoughts/comments will be super appreciated!
