I’m currently in Japan and experiencing “Tourist Guilt”.

To put it briefly: I’m pretty sure I’m not doing anything wrong. In fact, most of my research for this trip was on how to act respectfully and not piss anyone off rather than which sights to see and places to go and what to do.

So far I’ve had several great interactions with the locals in Tokyo and had a lot of fun, but I cant help but feel that maybe they are just being nice on the outside and that I may be (as a tourist) unwanted here because of the recent actions of some of the dickheads who aren’t as conscious of their actions as I am.

I just arrived in Osaka today and to say that Dotonbori is packed with tourists is an under statement. I was feeling pretty bad already and then I saw one guy spit on the street as he was walking.

And idk it just put me off so much that I went back to the hotel, locked myself in the room and am now writing this post.

I know I’m probably overthinking it, and I realize the irony in having a tourist be bothered by other tourists but I would appreciate any feedback nonetheless. I love this place so much and I just want them to like me too.
