2-Week Itinerary Check – First Timers (Oct 2024)

Hi everyone,

My partner and I will be in Japan for our first time in October and would love any feedback and advice on our itinerary. We will be traveling for 2 weeks from mid to end of October from the UK.

About us: we are both in our mid/late 20s and we’re pretty chill and laid back travelers. We love strolling and immersing ourselves in local neighborhoods and checking out local shops and cool cafes/restaurants in each area. We’re also keen on discovering the Japanese countryside and spending some time in nature.

Questions:

1. Is Takayama worth the detour? Conscious that it’s quite a journey from Kyoto and to Tokyo. Hesitating between three options: 1) Removing Kawaguchiko to spend an extra day in the Takayama region 2) Removing 1 day (day 12) from Tokyo to spend an extra day in the region 3) Cutting out Takayama completely. What do you think?
2. Do the neighborhoods combinations in the Tokyo leg make sense? I’m having a hard time estimating the time at each place correctly

Thanks so much for any insights you can share x
