Applied for a Amex CC having been a UK customer for over 2 years using their global relationship. Entered katakana name as I could not enter in English (kana only). Was approved, card was sent to nearby JP Post, could not collect due to name mismatch.
Then I called them to re-apply over the phone so they could input the name correctly (30 min call + callbacks etc), then after a few days (today) I confirmed the details and I was immediately rejected. Called them to ask the equivalent of ‘wtf?’ and they said ‘its just something that happens and we can’t do anything about it, please try again in 6 months time’.
**TL:DR: was approved for a card but couldn’t collect it, was told to re-apply and failed on a reapplication with the same information but English name instead of katakana. No chance of appeal.**
