Realistic WHV expectations? Money, job hunt, etc.

How much is a realistic amount to go with? I’m getting a lot of mixed messages when looking back at old posts. I’d like to live comfortably for 3 – 4 months minimum just in case I struggle to find work and need to return home. Would £5,000 ($6,000) be enough? I don’t plan on staying in big house shares.

To give some background – I’m a native English speaker from the UK without a degree. I currently work remote as a freelancer and can also work from Japan but the goal is to shift away from being reliant on freelance money while there. I’ll still have money coming in but it’ll be small “side” income, as I’d personally prefer to work and study at a language school while in Japan.

Another question – I’m a black woman in my late 20s. How easy is it to get a job in Japan? I’d be looking for part time or temp work as I plan to remain self employed long term and go back to school in the near future.

Any advice on the job market in Japan? I enjoy working with children and my English is good. Would this be easy to get into? Do language schools help with getting decent part time jobs?

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.
