I hope someone could point me to a good lawyer who looks into real estate issues in Yokohama. Towards the end of 2022 my UR apartment got flooded with water due to a clogged drain pipe in the upper floor apartment which eventually (after 4 months) UR claimed that it was their fault. Apparently, whoever fixed their drain pipe got it clogged due to bad quality construction and the drain water accumulated which finally caused the roof water leakage.
UR on their part seem adamant not to take blame and said they will refund some money on the furniture, clothing, and bag, and trivialize it by terming this compensation as “sorry-money”. However, they have rejected to pay for my loss of work (leave taken to resolve this) and all the inconvenience caused due to their negligence. In addition, I requested them to pay some medical damages. All of which was rejected and they claimed that since I don’t have an insurance it is not their fault which I find ridiculous. On consulting a Japanese colleague she felt that UR doesn’t seem to take it seriously because I am a foreigner.
When I look at the lawyer fees online it will easily be around half to a million yen that seems ridiculous but I suppose those are the fees and I hope they will be adding this amount in the final settlement amount to be paid by UR. However, I want to be careful and want to find a reliable lawyer instead of something that google search engine throws up. I am hoping to find a good lawyer who is genuine and will eventually add my losses and cost of lawyer to the final settlement.
