Bringing Melatonin to Japan

So I’m flying to Japan by the end of this week and I have no time to apply for a ‘Yunyu Kakunin-sho’. As melatonin is just a supplement and sold everywhere without prescription where I live, and not an actual medicine, I didn’t know it would be banned in Japan and stuff.
I think I’ll really need melatonin, especially to get over the first couple of weeks’ worth of Jet-Lag, so I just wanted to ask if it’s fine to bring a 1 month supply of melatonin with you to Japan **without any doctor’s prescription and no documents** (like the Yunyu Kakunin-sho) **whatsoever**?

I know there’s a 2-month rule where you can bring your medicine as long as it’s for personal use and it doesn’t exceed more than 2 months worth of dosage, but do you still need to fill in a document/have your doctor’s prescription at hand? I can’t seem to find any official information specifically for melatonin that tells you exactly what you need/don’t need to do in order to bring some with you.

Have any of you flied to Japan with melatonin and no documents whatsoever?

  1. You should have no problem bringing it over. I’ve brought melatonin and aspirin in my carry-on numerous times and no questions were asked

  2. Question for you what do I need to bring to Japan? If I was planning on studying there for a while

  3. Every time I fly from the US to Japan I bring hundreds of pills of melatonin on my check in baggage, so far they have never even checked. Worst case scenario, they take it, big deal. AFAIK it’s not an illegal substance.

  4. I live in Japan and ordered melatonin vitamins from iHerb because my wife had sleeping issues. We received it without problem.

  5. You won’t have to declare it, but nice gesture. Make sure the bottle is sealed just to make sure.

I’ve only ever declared alcohol, when I’ve gone over the limit for what’s allowed to bring in. It was funny, they were astonished ‘hey hey, look someone actually is declaring something!!’ They profusely apologized for charging me 720 yen for the case of wine I brought back. A friend didn’t declare going over the limit and was stuck for 90min in customs explaining why….it pays (time wise) to declare.
