I am currently planning my day of travel from Tokyo to Kyoto via shinkansen. We are getting picked up in Kyoto by a shuttle to go to our Ryokan at 3pm from Hanazano station; it’s a pretty short trip from Kyoto station to Hanazano station via the Sagano line. My question is: is it better to leave Tokyo as early as possible to maximize time around either Kyoto station or Hanazano station before we catch our shuttle at 3pm? Is there cool stuff to do around Kyoto station or Hanazano, or is that a less cool part of town? Or would you recommend instead spending more time in the morning in Tokyo, leaving only enough time for a quick meal in Kyoto before catching our shuttle? Thanks!
