Thinking about, is it allowed for another country’s president to use a US podium? Or other way around? Seems like it would be a image issue
I think the largest eyebrow raising thing is the possibility of appointing a 4 star general, which as far as US side’s command and control will grant far more authority, such as setting and assessing military policy.
This would mean the deployment of weapons systems, training requirements, combat readiness, and speed of expanding military infrastructure.
I believe that the content of the meeting is that an important issue in the division of defense roles between Japan and the United States is what to do about military expenses.
Throughout the history there are always some countries that don’t have the capability to reason. They only respond to display of power and strength, such as the Assyria, Mongul, Ottoman, Nazi, Soviet etc. To them, try to be nice is a sign of weakness.
Such as Czechoslovakia prior to ww2. President Edvard Benes (Benes Doctrine) focused on maintain a friendly relationship with neighboring countries, such as Germany. Despite Czechoslovakia’s willingness to negotiate and compromise to avoid conflict, Western powers, particularly Britain and France, appeased Hitler’s demands in the Munich Agreement, effectively sacrificing Czechoslovakia’s territorial integrity for temporary peace.
This agreement only further emboldened Hitler, led to dismemberment of Czechoslovakia in 1939.
Two of the worst leaders of their respective countries coming together. A man with dementia and another with less than a 30% approval rating. What could possibly go wrong.
