Travel plans around the Golden Route

Hello all!

We have been slowly putting together an itinerary for our three week trip to Japan and it’s been overwhelming for me. We will be there starting at the end of May and into June. Lots of my concerns are related to travel logistics getting from place to place. I am not good at making travel plans, and get anxious about traveling in general. I am wondering if I could get some advice. My googling around is adding to my confusion rather than helping it.

We are starting out with a day around Narita to acclimate for a bit, then heading over to Tokyo for a long 8 days to take in sites in the city as well as the surrounding areas.

For the next four or five days, we were then hoping to go up north to the Gorge, but I read on Reddit that it’s been affected by the recent earthquake and is not running its whole course. Has anyone experienced it lately? We want to see the gorge, the coast, and maybe stay a night at the [Zentokuji Temple](https://moritosha.jp/hotel/), but I’m not sure how complicated it is to get there. Has anyone gone north and then back down to Kyoto rather than take the shinkansen directly to Kyoto from Tokyo? What did you do and how easy/difficult was it for you to get around?

We would make our way from the northern coast areas down to Kyoto and Osaka for about 5 days, then head back to Tokyo for one night before our flight out the next day.

Thanks all!
