Hello!
I’ve been living in Japan for 10 years now (1 in school and 9 working at the same place). I currently have a 3-year work visa, and I’m planning to apply for eijuken soon.
I’ve been working on a videogame as a side project for the past few years, and I’ve recently signed a contract for a small publishing deal.
Considering I’m going to start getting monthly payments from the publisher, and that when I release the game it will add more income, I was thinking it may be better for me to start a kojin jigyo.
First of all, would this be a good move or a waste of time?
The publisher deal will amount to 15,000 USD, I will release the game (probably) in Q3 this year. It’s not a game that will make me rich, but at the same time, it’s hopefully going to be a decent second income.
What I seem to understand is that opening a kojin jigyo is free, and I only have to file documents.
I should then declare taxes next year in March.
Would I be able to declare money received before starting the kojin jigyo as relative to the company, and not myself?
For example, I will get my first payment this month, and start the kojin jigyo next month. How would that work?
Can anybody also give me a brief explanation on how it would work for things like expenses for the game/company (like buying a new PC, paying a freelancer for music, etc.)?
Any other additional info or tip would be appreciated. I’m also not 100% sure if this can lead to issues when applying for the eijuken, or if there is a better order I should do things in (for example, if all the game related income can be declared next March anyway, should I wait to open the kojin jigyo?).
Thank you in advance.
