Got a reply from a recruiter. Is it a Japanese way of saying “No” or am I overthinking?

Hello everyone,

I am currently working full-time in Japan for a company that’s my very first, that I joined as a shinsotsu after graduating from a university in Japan. Therefore, I don’t have much experience talking to recruiters. Recently I was contacted on LinkedIn by a recruiter from a very well-known foreign company. The person works for that company and was hiring directly, so it wasn’t anyone from recruiting agency or anything, if that matters. Anyway, this person was asking for a conversation as they had a position that matched my profile.

We had a pretty nice conversation, at least that’s what it seemed to me. The recruiter said that they will have internal discussion, and if they wanna proceed the next step would be having a casual conversation with someone from the actual team. After around a week I got a message from the recruiter that said smth along the lines of: “Sorry we won’t be able to conduct a casual conversation because the team is on business trips and they can’t find a free slot. But if you apply officially through the job posting on our website, the first interview will be conducted by the Sr Manager from that team”.

Does this mean they are not really interested in proceeding with me and simply being polite and not rejecting me directly? Or I am overthinking it and it could really be the genuine reason?

If anyone with experience talking to Japanese recruiters could share their thoughts, that would be helpful.

EDIT: to make it clearer as to what exactly the recruiter could mean, here’s the original message:

(I’ll delete the message, since I got many responses to my question)

EDIT2: thank you everyone, seems like i was overthinking a bit too much. I would apply either way, the difference is, I am more confident now
