Traveling to Japan – Advice Requested

My husband and I are traveling to Japan in June for his birthday and I am looking for as much advice as anyone is willing to provide. We are going for 6-8 days, and will most likely be staying in Tokyo and may visit Kyoto/Nagano/Hiroshima for a night or two if it makes sense.

1. Is it best to have a tour guide each day? Is there a reliable company that we can hire a guide from for certain days of our trip?

2. Where are the best places to stay? A large hotel chain such as Hyatt/Hilton/Marriott or are there other better options that would be better?

3. How many days should we stay in each city? For the cities I listed above, what “must-see/do” activities should we see?

4. What phone apps should we 100% download before going?

5. I hear train passes should be bought in advance. Is there a best place to buy these?

6. We only speak English, German, and Spanish…Will language be an issue?

7. Any other random pieces of advice would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you all with any tips/suggestions/advice that you are willing to share.

Thank you!
