Hokkaido road trip – itinerary check

Hi all, my wife and I are travelling to Japan late July/early August for our honeymoon this year. We’ll do Tokyo, then Kyoto, then fly up to Hokkaido and rent a car for a few days. I’ve put a rough itinerary together but would like people’s opinions or suggestions.

Day 1 – Arrival into New Chitose airport, collect car, visit Shikisai Hill/Farm Tomita, then drive to the west edge of Daisetsuzan national park. Likely stay in Asahidake Onsen, or perhaps Tokachidake Onsen.

Day 2 – Half-day hike into Daisetsuzan national park, afternoon drive to Noboribetsu. Likely stay in Dai-ichi Takimoto-kan. Evening relaxing after a long drive.

Day 3 – Exploration around Noboribetsu, perhaps a trip up to Lake Shikotsu or Lake Toya. More laid-back day after the hike and long drive the day before.

Day 4 – Some possible further morning exploration, then drive to Hakodate. Catch the sunset atop Hakodate-yama and enjoy the evening.

Day 5 – Morning market for breakfast and exploring historical Hakodate, then up to Shin-Hakodate station to catch the Shinkansen back to Tokyo (we’re aware this is much more expensive than flying, but we want the experience).

If there is anything I’ve missed out, or anything along the way of the locations I’ve chosen, please point them out. I’m aware there are some long drives but this isn’t a problem for me. Thanks!
