Anyone have advice or experience with really aggressive solicitors? Yesterday I had three women show up outside my door and try to get me to join some Buddhist religion. I’m a young woman living alone so I opened my door like 1/3 of the way to see who had rang my doorbell. One of the women put her hand on my door and pulled it the rest of the way open. Immediately they started trying to sell me on whatever their cult is spouting nonsense about “happiness”. I told them multiple times I wasn’t interested but they insisted I need “happiness” and did not let go of my door. While I do speak Japanese I’m only N3 so I didn’t understand a lot of what she said. I told them that several times as well but they kept saying “You don’t need to understand” and kept talking at me. I finally get them to let go of my door and they left but they came back later around 8:30 at night and knocked on all the doors in the building. It’s a small building with only 10 people living in individual apartments, the front door has no lock on it so anyone can just enter the building and we’re all English teachers so I had tole them about them right after they came in the afternoon. However, the girl in the apartment next to me forgot and opened the door for them and had the same issue. Sh’s around N5 and kept telling them no but they just tried google translating and wouldn’t leave her alone. They said they’d come back again today around 5-6 pm. I talked to the other residents and we’re putting up a no solicitors sign in Japanese but we’re pretty sure that won’t deter them at all. We’ve agreed the next person who opens their to them will tell them if they enter the building again we’re calling the cops and no one is interested but idk if that’ll work either. I’m afraid of how aggressive they were. I was alone in the building when they came the first time and it was 3 of them. What are our rights here, if we do end up having to call the cops do we have any grounds to press charges? I don’t want to involve the cops but they really aren’t taking no for an answer. I was wondering if I should maybe record the conversation for proof if they continue to harass us. I’m going to take one of their pamphlets this time as proof of their visit and some way to identify them. If anyone has any experience I would really appreciate hearing about what you did that made them stay away for good while also keeping yourself protected from these crazies.
