Filthy huge pile of trash in Ginza

Yesterday I went to Ginza and saw this huge pile of trash. It even had a half eaten fish head being
pecked by a bird. Last year when I came here, Tokyo was almost spotless, and yesterday I saw this in Ginza of all places. This isn’t even the first pile of trash that I saw although none were as bad as this one. What’s going on, Tokyo?

  1. Don’t visit Shibuya before 8am. You’ll get a fit of the vapours.

(btw. One of the main culprits is hiding behind the cone there.)

  2. Japan isn’t immune to people littering, just happens to be to a lesser extent than a lot of other countries. In this case looks like some animal got into a trash bag and made this mess, probably the crow next to it chowing down

  3. Trash on the street? In *my* perfect Tokyo??

It’s more likely than you think.

  4. Possible scenario: Trash bag punctured by crows, trash left behind by drunk people, trash collected by crows.

  5. Looks like the trash was put out over night instead of in the morning. So it’s more likely to be attacked by crows who will see it as fair game.

  6. The city was inundated with Hanami enjoyers this weekend. You should happy it wasn’t worse my good fellow.

  7. Hopefully this is a joke. If not, someone put their trash out too early, and the crows got to it. They either did not put it into the container properly or didn’t cover it in the net. Other possibility is that they put the bag put late and wanted to pretend it was on time. The trash is left with a note on their apartment door to clean their shit up. How do they know whose bag it was? I would assume they would just assume and blame someone.

Living in a dorm, a student left a bag of trash out improperly once and it made a mess, so the dorm leader gathered it up, and dumped it in front of the room of the person whose name was on some of the papers with a nice reminder.

So yeah, not only is there trash on the ground, it was left there with the intent to shame the person who didn’t get their burnables out properly.

  8. Quite likely the aftermath of a Corvid Feeding Frenzy. Way back in the day, I was into street photography and I used to visit Shibuya early in the mornings. I would often come across hordes of crows just tearing into all of the previous nights’ trash and scattering it everywhere. It looked just like this.

I also used to see gang fights between rival murders. Those crows would get right in the middle of Shibuya Crossing and would battle it out, often completely stopping traffic. I swear I even though I saw the glimmer of switchblades a couple of times.

  9. I called the UN Security Council and they agreed to hold an emergency session Monday New York time.

  10. Japan is clean. Japanese people are clean. Must be all the gaijin (sarcastic)

  11. Yes, Tokyo is a post apocalyptic wasteland of unlawlessness and pain. Geez.

  12. Ginza? Probably the crows did it. Just wait for the street cleaners to come.
