First attempt at Nikujaga

Always loved Japanese food, and started making simple dishes at home (fried rice and stir fry’s etc), but over the last couple years I started learning some more actual dishes.

I’ve fallen in love with Katsudon and Gyüdon. I’ve made tons of different ramen bowls (mostly simple stuff like tempura shrimp, or pork or chicken katsu and Tamago Ajitsuke), and decided to try my hand at a new one I learned about

Also some fried rice on the side!

Any similar recipes any of you would recommend? Big fan of pork, and those comfort food style dishes

  1. I am almost always highly positive when I comment in this sub, but I’m having an “Uncle Roger” moment here, so please bear with me…I’m trying to be as constructive as possible, but looking at the chicken breast and ramen noodles, and apparent absence of a broth….it’s just so…..viscerally….. wrong……Anyway, the important thing is that you’re having fun. Japanese comfort food *is* awesome, and if this is your first attempt, it can only get better from here!

That said, I would gently recommend [https://www.justonecookbook.com/](https://www.justonecookbook.com/) for some pointers on the nikujaga, and probably the gyuudon also, just given the weird way that you are spelling it.

Best of luck on your culinary adventures!

  2. Have you tried yakisoba and sukiyaki? These are favorite dishes for my husband who loves nikujyaga and gyūdon.
