Pet ownership rules in buildings if you purchase an apartment

Hi all, curious about how pet laws work in Japan in a building if you OWN the apartment. In the US, even if you own in a building, pets might not be allowed. Wondering how it is in japan? Asking because we have 6 pets and are planning to come with them on student visas, renting is obviously out of the question so we are going to buy a house(mansion)/apartment and then sell it later if we decide not to stay.

  1. SIX pets? GTFO.

And have you looked into the rules of bringing pets over? You’re a cruel human if you are willing to leave them in quarantine for 28 days in Japan.

  2. Hi there – i find that the properties that allow pets are usually newer and very expensive or 20 mins from the closest eki and very run down.

Depends on where you’re moving, but in tokyo you can get 100 homes available and then click the pet相談 box and it goes down to 7.
In other words, it’s really really tough. op you might look into living outside of the city and with land so it doesn’t bother your neighbors. If you have more than 1 or 2 smallish dogs in the city then the neighbors will snoop and complain for sure.
I wish tokyo were more pet friendly as having one releases my stress. But I understand why it is the way it is.
