Getting a Residence Card Before Securing a Permanent Address

Hello Reddit.

I’ll be arriving in Japan with a working visa soon. I understand that I will be issued a residence card upon arrival at the airport, and then have to register with my address at city hall.

My question is whether I need to have a permanent address to give to the relevant airport staff when getting my residence card, or if it’s permissible to get the residence card first and find permanent housing afterwards (whilst staying at a hotel, for example). I imagine they will ask for an address of some sort when issuing the residence card, but I couldn’t find a definite answer elsewhere.

Thank you for any insight!
