I started working a job where I’m on my feet a lot, squatting and lifting somewhat heavy objects, and I must have put too much weight on my big toe because I got an infection in the inner side of the toe where I’ve always felt a little uncomfortable because of a slightly ingrown toenail. It’s difficult to walk and touching it lightly hurts.
I went to two clinics – one with really good google reviews, the other not so much. The better reviewed place gave me antibiotics to take for about a week and told me I didn’t need surgery, while the place with the not so great reviews told me to get surgery pretty much immediately, had me sign a consent form for a surgery next week. I don’t think the form was sketchy, it just explains the procedure and says I can cancel until the day before.
Now, the place with the lower reviews seem to promote that they specialize in podiatry, especially ingrown toenails, and the bad reviews seem to come from people that didn’t like the “rushed” approach the doctor was taking (also lots of lack of “愛想” comments). The good reviews say the doctor is skilled at surgeries. So I’m having mixed thoughts about it.
Honestly I’m kinda embarrassed to say this, but Ive never had surgery before and when the doctor showed me a video that explained and showed the surgical procedure (including the gory parts), I almost threw up and felt faint for ~10 minutes. Don’t think I’ve felt that way before, even when I was a kid going to a doctor.
Do any of you have experience with this? The antibacterial meds are working, but I’m worried the pain’s just going to come back. The part of the toenail that’s embedded is very close to the root and impossible/painful for me to get with just clippers at home. I did order ingrown toenail clippers, so I’m hoping that will work as a last resort before surgery.
