Japanese expat using Wise

Hello everyone

I am a Japanese expat living in Germany.
I’m planning to go home in October for 3-4 weeks.

I’m considering using Wise while I’m there this time, but I see mixed reviews about Wise on various threads here.
Some say it works pretty well. Some seem to have an issue with it.
It also looks like maybe it depends on from which country the Wise card was issued?

I have the Wise Visa debit card issued in EU (IBAN is Belgian)
I’m thinking I’ll transfer money from my German bank account to wise and convert it while the rate is good.

Has anyone from Germany or EU used wise while in Japan?
Would be great to hear your thoughts!

Free withdrawal is only up to 200€ a month which is not that much, but I think the fees after the limit is not that high anyway? Would you agree?

My home is in Kyoto so that’s where I’ll mostly be if that makes any difference (would it??)

Thanks in advance for your help!

——BACKGROUND——

I started looking into different options for how to pay and withdraw money while I’m home.

Until last time I went home, I was using the combination Sony bank wallet and PayPal (German account and Japanese account), which is now a bit complicated situation for some several reasons.

Whenever I’m home I go crazy with shopping haha

I’ll be with my parents most of the time and they always offer me to provide money while I’m home, but I’d like to have different options.

For this reasons, I’m thinking I’ll just try Wise this time and see if it works. If it doesn’t work well for me, that’s ok I can just get money from my parents.
