Itinerary Check – 14 Days Tokyo-Aomori-Sapporo

My fiancé and I are just starting to plan our honeymoon for early August. We are interested in staying to the north. Does this itinerary seem feasible from a travel stand point? Anything that you would exclude/include? The Aomori Nebuta Matsuri and the Michinoku trail are at the top of our list. Assuming August 1 – 14 for now.

Days 1-3: Tokyo. Top interests include the Imperial Palace gardens, day trip to Mt. Fuji, and the Ghibli museum.

Day 4: Train/bus to Aizuwakamatsu. Visit Suehiro Brewery.

Day 5: Visit Tsuruga Castle. Train/bus to Hachinohe. Planning to spend two nights here so that we can spend Day 6 at Aomori Nebuta Matsuri. It looks like getting accommodations in Aomori would be impossible at this point. Is Hachinohe the best option?

Day 6: Aomori Nebuta Matsuri. Spend night in Hachinohe.

Day 7: Send luggage to Sapporo. Is it likely to arrive at our hotel in Sapporo in 2 days? Train to Shintaro Station. Hike Michinoku trail to Kyukamura Rikuchu-Miyako Hotel.

Day 8: Hike Michinoku trail to Miyako City. Spend night in Miyako. This section of the trail seemed to fit best with going to the festival, but we are open to other day hike sections.

Day 9: Travel to Sapporo. This looks like it will take all day by train/bus.

Day 10 – Day 11: Sapporo. Checking out the Beer Museum and the night life are our top interests.

Day 12 – Day 13: Stay at a onsen ryokan in Hokkaido. We are still narrowing down our options. We really like the look of some of the lake-front onsen ryokans. We would like to do some more hiking as well.

Day 14: Travel back to Tokyo.

I made the mistake of trying to do too many things on our trip to Iceland last year, so I don’t want to do that again. If this is too much, I would appreciate the reality check!
