Will Japanese stay a “popular” language to learn in the future?

I see so many eager Japanese learners here, so I want to hear your opinions, from non Japanese perspective, on whether there will be a decent demand for the Japanese language in the future. I’m sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

So I’ve been teaching Japanese off and on and thinking about being a full-time teacher for a living. Thanks to the bizarre and unique Japanese stuff, such as anime, I’ve had a little difficulty finding students, but I’m not sure about the future because many, as far as I observe, say the Japanese economy is shrinking, and fewer people will be interested in Japan/Japanese in the future.

A Japanese teacher will probably be an okay job for another 10 years, but I’m still in my 20s, so I have to live at least some 60 years more.

What are your thoughts?? I appreciate it if you share why you study Japanese, too!

  1. As long as they retain at least their soft power, there will always be people interested in learning and the language will stay popular. Anime, manga and video games a strong reason why people learn.

The you have idols, tv shows and movies. With the expansion of streaming services in particular and production now offering worldwide shows we wouldn’t have otherwise from other countries, there is a strong possibility than Japan gets their own Squid Game momentum. Alice in Borderland was already pretty popular

Now more of their content is also on Youtube.
