How would you interpret this fictional male character?

* Uses あたし
* Likes women and often flirts with them
* Dresses in a masculine manner, such as suit and tie
* Is a lawyer
* Story takes place in the 1950s

This has been bothering me for a while. Is he bisexual?

  1. Does he go beyond flirting with the women?

    Sounds legen….wait for it…dary!

  2. あたし is considered masculine in old school Shitamachi dialect.

    >Atashi is a first-person feminine pronoun in Standard Japanese, but in Shitamachi dialect, it is often used by both men and women.

    I’ve heard several Japanese comedians refer to themselves as あたし, like Kasuga from Audrey who is like a big buff dude and is married (to a woman) and has kids.

    I think its actually kind of a masculine flex to refer to yourself as あたし since it shows you are confident enough with your own masculinity that you aren’t worried about how people perceive you if you refer to yourself that way.

  3. I know one male character who uses アタシ as well but not flirty. He’s more like a character who doesn’t give a f about gender roles. Kinda androgynous cuz I can’t say he’s masculine nor feminine.

    Anyway. You can’t say a guy is bisexual or whatev just because of his choice of first person pronoun. I myself is a female but I use 僕 in casual conversations cuz I’m comfortable with it and my sexual orientation/identity has nothing to do with it. So I’d say he’s just a guy who likes using あたし. But that character is kinda surprising for me tho, cuz the ones I usually see who uses あたし are always either feminine male or androgynous and don’t flirt with neither men or women. May I know what his name is and what series is he from?
