Trip next week, don’t want to make the same mistakes in Bookoff again but can’t find any guidelines for shopping there

So basically my second trip is next week and this trip is going to be my shopping trip unlike my first which was just sightseeing, and I really want to get my hand on cheap(er) Japanese media and other thrifted products but I’m a little unsettled by my first experience in a Bookoff and was wondering if it would be a repeat experience.

So essentially I went to a nice little Bookoff in Kannami and seemed like a pretty easy experience, everything was in nice sections and easy to find and it was simply take the items I find and wait in line till a register is open. well, it got to my turn and then I was confused as I was told, with difficulty since I was never expecting to look out for this, that the purchases of my goods would be separate registers between game items and all other products and became a bit troubling for me and the cashier to explain and respond properly by trying to figure out the correct way to phrase what we wanted to say in our different native language to the others ( and it doesn’t help that I become introverted when simple interactions hit an unexpected roadblock)

so anyways what I want to know is if this is common practice for all Bookoffs (or at the very least will I run into this again since I’ll just be in Tokyo this trip) and if so what items are specifically separated so I just avoid buying them together, any key phrases and signs I should watch out for, and just generally more guidelines on shopping at Bookoffs (and Don Quijote for this matter) since even though it left me confused it was a delightful experience that I want to keep coming back to each time I’ll visit
