Looking for advice, suggestions, or problems I might have missed on my itinerary. I (41M) am traveling with my wife (40F) and two kids (12M and 9F).
Monday, May 27 – Arrive Haneda airport around 1 PM. Pick up WiFi hotspot (Our phones are locked so can’t do eSIM cards) and IC card (does it matter which?) and head for the train(s) to go to our hotel in Ueno area. Don’t have much planned for the rest of the day since we are just arriving but would love suggestions for anything easy to orient ourselves, and stay awake until bedtime!
Tuesday, May 28 – 9:30 admission to TeamLab planets. Also plan to visit the poop museum (the kids are very excited for this, should I book ahead of time?). Also plan to check out the unicorn gundam statue and the Statue of Liberty since they are relatively close. Do I need to add more to this day?
Wednesday, May 29 – planned to travel through Ueno park and stop at one or both of the Tokyo National Museum and the national museum of science and nature. Thought about going to the Ameyoko shopping district and then Senso-Ji. Finally I planned to finish the day at Tokyo skytree.
Thursday, May 30 – This day is a little light. Maybe reserving some time for spur of the moment things but open to suggestions as well. The plan was to head west today and Meiji Jingu and Harajuku as well as Shibuya with the obligatory stop at the scramble crossing.
Friday, May 31 – This is a travel day as we take an early Shinkansen to Kyoto and then head to Kinkaku-Ji and Nijo castle
Saturday, June 1 – Taking a trip with Hozugawa Rafting. The rafting ends at Fu-Fu-No-Yu. From there planned to head into Arashiyama and check out the bamboo forest and monkey park.
Sunday, June 2 – Planned to walk the philosopher’s path from north to south stopping at some of the temples and shrines along the way before going to Fushimi Inari Taisha. (Too much?)
Monday, June 3 – leaving Kyoto for Osaka with a day trip in Nara in between. Nara park and Todai-Ji are musts but would love any suggestions for a visit on a relatively short timeframe.
Tuesday, June 4 – Osaka castle, America-Mura, and Namba Yasaka shrine are on the itinerary for today.
Wednesday, June 5 – Universal Studios Japan (Should we go in expecting the crowds to be huge or would this normally be a slower day?)
Thursday, June 6 – Today we are going to Osaka Aquarium, stopping by the Tempozan Ferris wheel, then going to Hozenji, and Dotonbori.
Friday, June 7 – Another travel day as we head to Yokohama today. Don’t have anything planned here so I could either add something in the morning in Osaka or the afternoon in Yokohama. Thoughts?
Saturday, June 8 – Heading to the cup noodles museum followed by the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and then on to Chinatown.
Sunday, June 9 – Departure day. Flight doesn’t leave until 18:30 so certainly could get in some last minute shopping or maybe even one last activity.
Thanks to everyone who read this. I really do appreciate this community as it really helped me in what would have otherwise been a very intimidating trip to plan!
