I’ve been using Softbank Hikari for home internet (not mobile) for 3 years now, and since last year, I’ve been facing more connectivity issues. When I contacted Softbank chat last year, they suggested unplugging or restarting the box, and when that didn’t help, they sent me a new BB Hikari box, which worked fine initially (I did that twice).
However, this year has been a mess. I returned my BB box a few weeks ago, but the internet keeps randomly disconnecting. The warning and connection lights on the BB box turn red (警告 and 回線 but not the one indicating “WiFi”), then I can’t use internet on my phone or computer, iPad and whatever (but I do received notifications from Instagram about new messages than I can’t open)
When I turn everything off and on again, or when I restart the box the problem remains the same and it took X attempts (too many) before the lights to turn back green and internet to works on my phone/ compute. And sometimes it comes back on its own,
Yesterday, the connection line turned red, and after several restarts and resets, it returned to normal. But today, the connection is lost again, and neither restarting nor power cycling is fixing it. It’s incredibly frustrating, and I’m skeptical that contacting customer service will solve anything beyond sending me another box that may not fix the issue.
My friend suggested leaving Softbank, but I’m still under a 2-year contract, so I’m looking for alternatives or advice from others who might have experienced similar problems. Unfortunately, all matters related to internet is above my knowledge so all the things I’ve already read online about manually adjusting settings or using the Hikari setup menu is incomprehensible.
The two first years with SoftBank were great so I didn’t know it was a big issue, like is SoftBank hikari that bad ? Should I just cancel and pay the 10.000¥ of cancelation and find another operator?

Edit : as set up I have a NTT device VDSL modem labeled VH-XXX and an 光BB unit.
